The AmeriCorps program works on a local, state, and national level to provide AmeriCorps members to meet the vital needs of the country through intensive service. There are three branches to the program including AmeriCorps State and National, AmeriCorps VISTA , and AmeriCorps NCCC. Victor, a lifelong Kansas City resident and current student at UMKC, joined the RDA team in the spring of 2017. In addition to other projects, Victor co-leads RDA’s youth sports programs. When not at RDA, Victor enjoys studying for school, sharing time with family and exploring the city with friends.
Nicole left New Mexico for Kansas City in 2016 and joined the RDA team in the spring of 2017. In addition to other projects, Nicole leads Kids in the Kitchen and assists with bicycle events. When not at RDA, she enjoys practicing yoga with her husband and working for Bike Walk KC and the Rosedale Farmers Market.
Deanna is a longtime Rosedale resident who joined the RDA team in the spring of 2017. In addition to other projects, Deanna leads RDA’s bicycle programs and assists with Girl Scouts. When not at RDA, Deanna enjoys visiting her family, attending multicultural events, advocating for waste reduction and caring for creatures great and small.
Jamal, a KCK native and Piper High School graduate, joined the RDA team in the fall of 2017. He completed his Bachelor’s of Science in Biology at Tennessee State and his Master’s of Public Health at Southern Illinois University. While in college, Jamal served his community by mentoring youth through the Boys and Girls Club and volunteering at food banks and soup kitchens. In addition to other projects, Jamal co-leads RDA’s youth sports and assists with bicycle events. When not at RDA, Jamal works for Quest Diagnostics and prepares for medical school.
Miranda hails from the small town of Friend in eastern Nebraska and joined the RDA team in the fall of 2017. She received her Bachelor’s in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska in May 2016 before moving to Ohio to serve with COMCorps at a local YMCA. In addition to other projects, Miranda co-leads RDA’s garden programs and assists with Kids in the Kitchen. When not at RDA, Miranda enjoys waiting tables and cooking delicious dishes from garden-fresh produce.
Emily joined the RDA team in the fall of 2017 after graduating with a degree in Biomedical Science. Originally from Wisconsin, Emily has volunteered in medical and community center settings for years. In addition to other projects, Emily co-leads RDA’s garden programs and assists with Girl Scouts. When not at RDA, Emily enjoys making memories with her husband, working for the public library, volunteering at KC Direct Primary Care and preparing for medical school.
