Excellence in Education - Rosedale Development Association

Excellence in Education students at Frank Rushton Elementary Excellence in Education is an honors program that recognizes students for having three key achievements: perfect attendance, good grades, and good behavior. It’s all about giving kids the positive reinforcement needed to keep them behaving and doing well in school.

The program was started by George Kemper, Sr., a retired Community Police Officer. “[The program] is to identify and recognize those students going above and beyond and doing the right thing.” said Kemper. “We want the children to understand that people in the community see what [the children] are doing and are being recognized for the right things.”

Recognition assemblies are held each quarter for the students who meet the qualifications of the program. These students receive a medal, an Excellence in Education t-shirt, and they’re entered into a raffle for more prizes. These assemblies are held in the evenings to allow parents and community members to attend. At each assembly a special guest speaker addresses the students, congratulating them on their success and encouraging them to continue their efforts. Past speakers include the mayor, city commissioners, and alumni of the program.
