Reading Inspirational Stories to Empower
Call for RISE volunteers now open
Dec 8, 2015

Every year during the the week of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Rosedale Development Association mobilizes volunteers to read stories about civil rights and social justice to children in Rosedale.

This special program is called Reading Inspirational Stories to Empower, or RISE. RISE helps connect students and community members through literacy to remind us all about how the Civil Rights Movement still affects us today.

During the week of MLK Day, volunteers will read stories about Dr. King, civil rights, and other social justice issues to children throughout Rosedale. Volunteers spend 20-30 minutes per classroom reading and discussing the story.

All volunteers are required to join us at our volunteer training at 6 p.m. on January 14, 2016 at 1401 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, KS. The training includes guest speakers to help the volunteers prepare for their discussions the following week. Dinner will also be provided.

To sign up to volunteer, contact Aaron Davis at aaron@rosedale.org or call 913-677-5097.
