May is National Bike Month, which means that Rosedalians of all ages will be celebrating bicycling this month. Thanks to Rosedale Development Association’s partnership with BikeWalkKC, Rosedale residents get three chances to show their love of bikes.

Rosedale’s Bike Month celebration kicks off with Frank Rushton Elementary at its annual Bike Rodeo on Wednesday, May 3. Frank Rushton students will learn bike safety skills by riding through obstacle courses and other activities. Everyone who completes each station in the rodeo will be entered to win various prizes – including a new bike!

On Tuesday, May 9, RDA and BikeWalkKC will host a special Earn-a-Bike program for adults. Community members will join us to learn bicycle mechanics and safety skills in order to earn their very own bike. The class has already filled up, but we would love to hear from you if you would like to attend another session.

And what would Bike Month be without RDA’s annual Bike-In Movie? Thanks to your votes, this year we will show 1984’s “The Karate Kid” on May 25 at the Boulevard Drive-In. Games, activities, and community resource tables will open at 7 p.m. and the movie will start around 9 p.m., or whenever it gets dark.

The Bike-In is free to attend for cyclists and pedestrians, but all those arriving by motorized vehicle are asked to pay a $5 donation.
